Composting At Gilliam's Community Garden

Learn about our composting practices and how we're able to grow beautiful plants in healthy soil.

Garbage to Garden

The best amendment for soil of any texture is organic matter — the decaying remains of plants and food scraps. As it decomposes, organic matter releases soil-dwelling micro-organisms. Gilliam’s Community Farm encourages the local community to join us in composting!

Soil Amendment Workshop

Our Soil Amendment Workshop will give you everything you need to start composting at home! Learn about soil amendment, temperature reading, turning the soil, soil shifting, and creating compost teas. At the end of the workshops, attendees will go home with a small amount of soil amendment.

The 4.5 hour workshop costs $45 and includes lunch.
